AP Calculus AB FRQ: Particle Motion on a Line

A 9-point free-response question in 4 parts. Write your answer, then score it with the rubric; the model answer appears when you are ready.

Question

A particle moves along the xx-axis so that its velocity at time tt is v(t)=t2−6t+8v(t) = t^2 - 6t + 8 for 0≤t≤50 \le t \le 5. At t=0t = 0 the particle is at x=2x = 2.(a) Find the acceleration of the particle at t=3t = 3.(b) For what values of tt in 0<t<50 < t < 5 is the particle moving to the left? Justify your answer.(c) Find the position of the particle at t=3t = 3.(d) Find the total distance the particle travels from t=0t = 0 to t=5t = 5.

Label each part (a), (b), (c)... and show the work that justifies it. Saved in this browser as you type.
