Cookie Policy

Last updated

This page lists everything MathSolver Pro stores in your browser and why. It complements our Privacy Policy, which explains how the problems you submit are handled.

The short version

Using the solver, the calculators and the articles without an account sets no cookie, and our own statistics never use cookies. A cookie is only set when you sign in, when you use the tutor chat, and by Google Analytics (see below). Your preferences and the work you save are kept in your browser's local storage.

Cookies for signing in and the tutor chat

  • ms_session: keeps you signed in after you log in. It lasts 30 days, or until you sign out.
  • ms_oauth: protects a sign-in with Google or Apple while it is in progress. It lasts 10 minutes.
  • ms_chat: a random code that lets you return to your tutor chats without an account. It lasts 1 year.

These cookies are set by this site only, cannot be read by page scripts and are never used for advertising.

Preferences saved in your browser

  • theme: remembers whether you picked light or dark mode. It stays until you clear your browser data.
  • saved work (ms_graphs_v1, ms_quiz_v1, ms_exam_v1, ms_fc_v1, ms-video): graphs you save and your progress in quizzes, practice exams, flashcards and lessons, so you can continue on this device.
  • pwa-install-dismissed: remembers that you closed the prompt to install the site as an app.

Local storage is never sent to our server with your requests. It is only read by the page itself.

Analytics cookies

Google Analytics counts visits and shows which pages are useful. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland (recognised by the country of their IP address, which this site's own server looks up in an offline table without sending it anywhere or storing it; only when that is unknown, by their device's time zone) are asked first, and its cookies are set only after they choose "Allow"; everyone else is counted anonymously without a banner. It sets its own first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier), which Google sets to last up to two years. IP addresses are anonymised, and ad storage and ad personalisation are turned off.

Separately, we count page views with our own statistics, which set no cookie and do not store your IP address. Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are not counted.

Administrator cookie

Site administrators who sign in to the content tools receive a session cookie that is limited to the /admin area, cannot be read by scripts and expires after eight hours. Visitors never receive it.

Changing your choice

  • To opt out of Google Analytics, choose "Decline" in the banner (Europe), block or delete this site's cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). In Europe, clearing this site's data shows the question again.
  • You can also block or delete cookies for any site in your browser settings. The solver and calculators keep working without cookies.
  • Signing out deletes the sign-in cookie. Deleting the site's cookies also removes the link to chats you had without an account.
